Gerber, a renowned knife manufacturer, has stepped into the camp-accessories market with the introduction of two unique lighting products. Based on L.E.D. lighting technology, the Inferno Flexi-Light and Hornet Flashlantern provide campers with a convenient light source that can each last up to 40 hours on three AAA batteries.
The Inferno Flexi-Light is a flashlight that has seven hidden articulating legs, each with its own high-powered L.E.D. bulb. The 8-inch-long cylindrical flashlight has five lighting modes that change the intensity and color of the light (from white to red).
In addition to the flashlight mode, the Inferno has a sleeve that slides back to reveal the seven flexible legs, which can be twisted into any position to light up a picnic table or the interior of a tent. Gerber pitches the idea of using the Inferno as a “tent chandelier.”
The Hornet Flashlantern can also be used as a flashlight or an all-purpose lantern in camp. Its design includes three stabilization legs that can be set in several positions. Like the Inferno, it has five lighting modes and can be hung from the ceiling of a tent to provide ample light for reading, cooking or gear organization.
Both models have red-light modes, which are designed to be used after dark to prevent the loss of night vision. A flashing red-light mode is included to use as a beacon in case of an emergency.
The Hornet Flashlantern and Inferno Flexi-Light each come with three AAA batteries and a lanyard that attaches to the light for hanging it up. Gerber claims the L.E.D. bulbs used in both models never need replacing.
Pricing: Inferno, $45; Hornet $30.
