Odor-Eating Sleeping Bag

The price you pay for warmth may be high. But when warmth equals a comfortable night sleep, a bag’s price tag is the last thing you’ll dream about. And when the bag doesn’t stink even after a week of use, all the better then.

Starting at $459, Sierra Designs’ new BTU line of sleeping bags, which go on sale this winter, feature 800-fill goose down insulation and a unique light-sensitive “Funk!Off” antibacterial liner. It’s touted to eliminate the “I’ve-slept-in-this-sleeping-bag-too-many-times-without-washing-it” odor.

The bags have temp ratings of -5 and -20. The antibacterial liner has a self-cleaning, deodorizing finish made primarily of titanium oxide. According to the company, all you have to do is expose the liner to sunlight to trigger a chemical reaction that helps freshen up the bag.

The sleeping bag has a Drizone membrane that’s waterproof and breathable, making it great for winter camping when you don’t use a tent. Its jacket-style hood hugs your head tighter than a traditional sleeping bag hood. A half-length offset zipper and a microfleece-lined foot box help keep you warm.

The Sierra Designs BTU -5 and -20 sleeping bags will be available in January for $459 and $529. www.sierradesigns.com
