Night Quest was started over 20 years ago in Pacific Spirit Park as a celebration of the park’s birthday, as well as a recognition of the nocturnal animals that call Vancouver home. It’s a great nighttime activity for both adults and kids who want to escape from the bright lights of the city, and celebrate the more natural things in life.
This Saturday, March 22nd, Night Quest 2014 will be taking place at Pacific Spirit Regional Park , at the 16th Avenue entrance (400 metres west of Blanca Street). The nighttime event offers a variety of different areas and entertainment to discover, run by volunteers, girl guides, and scout troupes. At the entrance to the park, you can feast on homemade goodies and hot chocolate, warm your hands over a roaring bonfire, or marvel at the roving stilt walkers.
After you get your fill of entertainment, you are free to enter the park itself where 2KM of lantern-lit forest trail will be opened. Visit all the discovery stations along the way where experts will be talking about the creatures of the night, including moths, bats, coyotes, spiders, owls and more.
In addition, Night Quest has a popular shadow walk with reflective animal silhouettes that’ll have you searching for as many critters as you can find. You can also look at the stars through telescopes set up by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, get into the rhythms of the night at the drumming tent, roast a marshmallow at the campfire, or meet a live owl.
