Wow, this week is flying by… probably because these felt flowers are just SO pretty and fun! Today I’m sharing the last felt flower pattern of the week and that means we are only 1 day away from the reveal of my fabulous new felt flower wedding bouquet! If you aren’t familiar with the lisianthus flower … think again, I know you’ve totally seen it. It’s a super pretty filler flower that is in MANY wedding bouquets and kind of resembles a garden rose. This felt rendition is sure to add something special to any arrangement!
In talking about handmade flowers – I’m singing the praises of felt. Unlike paper, felt flowers are thick, sturdy and can withstand all that your wedding day could possibly throw at them. Paper can rip and crumple in a flash – but not felt! There is something so old-school crafty about felt… and I just love it. So without further ado, here is this weeks fourth felt flower design – the lovely lisianthus.
SUPPLIES:
- Wool Felt (shown in peach, ecru, butter and sage)
- Good Scissors
- Floral Wire (18-20 gauge)
- Wire Cutters
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun (that does low heat)
You’ll be able to make one flower and one bud with: a 6″ x 9″ piece of felt and about a 4″ square for the leaves. However, you can make these flowers ANY size you like!
Cut Your Felt Petals
Below is a chart of all the felt petals you’ll need to cut out for this flower. You can gather the sizing from the ruler shown, but just know that you can create these petals in ANY size you’d like. The larger your petals the larger the flower and vise versa!
Flower:
– 1x large wavy circle petal
– 1x medium wavy circle petal
– 1x five point leaf
– 1x two point leaf
Bud:
– 1x small wavy rectangle petal
– 1x five point leaf
– 2x two point leaf
Create The Flower Center
This pattern is unlike all the others as first we start with no wire. Fold the medium wavy rectangle circle in half with the top side a bit under the bottom. Holding the right corner, roll into a tight cone shape and glue. Using a glue gun that can do “low heat” like this one from Martha Stewart is a MUST for not burning your fingers!
Add the Wire
Then drop a floral wire through the middle of the cone and glue.
Create The Outer Petal
Do the same thing with the large wavy circle; fold and roll into a cone shape but this time with a hollow center. Glue to secure the shape.
Add The Flower Center
Drop the flower center wire through the large cone shape, find the best fit and glue to secure. I found that this was the only way to gain the volume and unique flower petal layers that this design needed.
Add The Leaves
Glue the five-point leaf onto the flower base and then a few inches from the flower add additional little leaves… and your lisianthus is complete!
Create The Bud
Take the small wavy rectangle and glue a thin floral wire in the right corner. Then roll and wrap tightly and glue to secure. Next add the leaves to the bud just like you did to the flower – so simple and so cute!
Felt Lisianthus Boutonnieres
Are these little boutonnieres adorable or what!? You can use just the buds or the whole lisianthus flower to make super cute bouts that will perfectly match your bouquet!
