Track of the Day: Hotspot & Komaroff and Sumak’s “G Code” Keeps It All Good in the Hood

CUFF may not have started this gangsta shit, but the imprint can say it was there when the letter G was first getting thrown in front of the “house” qualifier. While Amine Edge & DANCE’s label has grown to encompass so much more than just G-house, they’re still repping the hip-hop-hued genre harder than anyone else on the set. The next issue in the CUFF queue should make their case, as it brings on Hotpot & Komaroff, who strap up with French phenom Sumak on three originals packaged together for their High Roller EP.

The title alone, “G Code,” tells you everything you need to know about where the release’s allegiance lies. Rolled up into a low-slung rhythm, the bulk of the movement relies on bumpy basslines hitting intermittently between clangorous percs and a vocal sample that keeps things all good in the hood.

Available June 23 via CUFF.
