My upcoming trip to San Antonio is going to be INSANE. And there are prizes to be had, so I encourage you to read through to the end of this post.
I am happy to announce that the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau has invited me to participate in the Race to the Alamo!
Three teams of travel bloggers will spend three days, August 4-6, running around San Antonio and its environs. We’ll be participating in competitions at San Antonio’s top attractions, while blogging, tweeting, YouTubing and Facebook updating about it to our followers.
Basically, it’s The Amazing Race, but in San Antonio.
And like The Amazing Race, it’s teams of two. So when it came time to choose my race partner, I immediately knew who it had to be.
My sister Sarah and I have always said that we would apply to be on The Amazing Race as soon as she turned 21 and became eligible. (She’s 23 now…we really should get on that.)
Sarah and I can work together better than any two people I know. We can have a blowout fight, then forget about it five minutes later. And she’s just as crazy about travel as I am.
In a lot of ways, she’s my foil. Where I’m ebullient, she’s sarcastic. Where I’m emotional, she’s stoic. But when stress hits, we both immediately get into lockdown mode and work efficiently to do what we need to do as quickly as possible.
And we’ve always wanted to go on The Amazing Race as “Sisters/Escaped Convicts,” complete with orange jumpsuits and handcuffs.
So in choosing my partner for Race to the Alamo, there could be no better partner than Sarah!

The Competition
Sarah and I make up one of the three teams. We will be competing against:

Visiting San Antonio
Of all the excitement this trip brings, I’m most excited to visit San Antonio. I’ve wanted to visit this city for a long time. My friends who have been to San Antonio are crazy about it!
San Antonio seems like a beautiful, romantic city with a lot of character. While it’s a melting pot of cultures with a big Mexican influence, there’s no doubt this is a city in Texas!
I’m looking forward to seeing the Alamo, checking out the theme parks (Sea World and the original Six Flags!) and spending evenings on the Riverwalk (pictured above).
But I can’t lie — what I’m looking forward to the most in San Antonio is eating a three-pound cinnamon bun at Lulu’s.

The fact that these even EXIST makes me love my country all the more.

Sarah and I can’t win this race on our own.
The race lasts three days, August 4-6. Each day, a winner is determined, and each day is worth 20% in determining the eventual winner of the Race to the Alamo.
The remaining 40% of the vote is determined by voting, which lasts through August 31.
No matter how we do in the race, we are going to need your votes.
So get ready for yet another unforgettable adventure!
I have no idea what’s in store, or what kinds of crazy things they’ll make us do. All I know is that we won’t have to drive a standard! (Neither Sarah nor I can drive a standard, and we’ve watched enough of The Amazing Race to know that it’s often a requirement in challenges like these.) And I hope we’re not doing forward-facing rappelling down a skyscraper.
It’s going to be a crazy ride, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
