A Buyer’s Market on Cheap Airfares

Fact: we’re in a bruising worldwide recession that is searching for a bottom.

Silver lining: man oh man are there some great airfare deals out there right now.

If you are still gainfully employed or are pocketing a severance package and hitting the road, this is a great time to fly. These are prices before taxes and fees, but look what’s popping up this week for round-trip fares:

Ft. Lauderdale to Costa Rica – $158 (AA)

Miami to Peru – $298 (AA)

New York to Ireland – $238 (Delta)

New York to Moscow – $478 (Delta)

Chicago to Atlanta – $126 (multiple)

D.C. to L.A. – $238 (multiple)

L.A. to Bangkok – $636 (multiple)

Birmingham UK to Prague – £3 (RyanAir)

Despite the low fares, your plane probably won’t be packed either. How quickly things change. Also, hotels are struggling just as badly, so if you’re in vacation mode and not backpacker mode, there are deals galore out there on rooms and packages, especially for city hotels and convention cities where business travel has fallen off a cliff. Be flexible and take advantage of a buyer’s market.
