A couple weekends ago, the Bayside girls and the men in our lives had the distinct pleasure of spending an evening with chef Jonathan Bardzik . Jonathan’s passion for food has led him to hosting cooking demos at Eastern Market in Washington DC, creating a food blog and giving in-home teaching parties. Davey and I have been married for more than three years now and we cook most of our dinners from scratch every night, but I can’t even begin to tell you how helpful it was to learn to cook with Jonathan!
Besides learning things like basic knife skills, how to make garlic paste, what the difference between black and white pepper is and why fresh spices are so important, Jonathan talked a lot about the art of cooking and what really brings a meal to life. Natalie even went back and changed her wedding registry after Jonathan taught us about the best tools for cooking in the kitchen.
Jonathan worked with us ahead of time to put a menu together based on our diets, tastes and the seasonal items he could find at his local farmer’s market. He came armed with a cooler filled with food as well as all the utensils, oils and seasonings for the night. I can honestly say that the meal he taught us to make is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It tops most of the restaurant meals I’ve ever eaten and if you’d let me, I’d eat the sweet potatoes he taught us to make every.single.night.
Demos like the one Jonathan hosted for us typically run between $800 to $1200 – depending on the menu and the number of guests. Jonathan is worth every penny and we love the idea of booking him for a newlywed couple, a bridal shower or an alternative bachelorette party.
Jonathan is such a vibrant, joyous person willing to share his vast knowledge of cooking. We learned so much and it was absolutely a night we’ll never forget!
Thanks for everything Jonathan!
