This week’s Real Wedding is the beautiful celebration of Anna and Alex. Anna and Alex both fled from the former Soviet Union and came to America as young refugees. In this land of opportunity, both became successful entrepreneurs. Anna is the CFO in her family’s export business and Alex runs his own law practice. Busy as they were, finding love proved to be elusive. As fate would have it, Anna was looking to hire a lawyer for her business and Alex showed up at her door. It was a trip to Burning Man where Anna let all her fears go and started getting butterflies at the thought of being with Alex for the rest of her life. Several months later, in classic Russian style, Alex proposed to Anna in front of her whole family on a crowded night at Central Kitchen in San Francisco.
The wedding took place on a private estate named Relais Du Soleilin in Glen Ellen CA, where larger than life metal art sculptures from Burning Man adorn a quiet wind-swept meadow. These enormities are lit up at night and along with the private swimming hole and guest cottages on the property make this a great venue for an event that can creep into the morning hours. Anna and Alex wed underneath a chuppah made by their friends and decorated with flowers and green garlands. Guests enjoyed cocktails created by the skilled mixologists at Goose & Gander in St. Helena. The scene at dinner could be best described as French country style tables each with homemade vodka by Anna’s father and overflowing dishes of Russian-meets-Wine Country fare. The romantic dinner tent, dancing under the stars and open air lounge made the night unforgettable.
