Beautiful Spring Ranch Wedding in Little River, California

Today, we are just smitten by Jenna and Kenny’s intimate ceremony located at the beautiful Spring Ranch in Little River, California wedding venue.  The couples big day was captured by the lovely Jennifer Michelson from A Girl and a Camera Photography and what a beautiful job she did! Their venue made for a gorgeous backdrop and the “golden hour” lighting allowed for the couples candid love to truly shine.

This historic property venue is snuggled up on the coast and features antique, salvaged materials perfect for the décor that Jenna did all herself (with a little help from her mom, of course!) Their wedding décor incorporates a fun and cheery feel with shades of yellow, orange, white, peach and teals.

From vintage tea sets, to rustic mason jars and multiple wedding DIY projects, this fun wedding turned out to be exactly what Jenna and Kenny were going for! And it’s too stunning not to share!

In Jenna’s own words…

Inspiration

  • More than anything we wanted the day to be fun. Because of that we kept the structure of the day as casual and organic as possible. We wanted people to feel like they were just hanging out with their friends, so we kept most of the seating to hay bales with coffee tables and did not assign seats. I was not very good at verbalizing what I wanted the décor to be (so I just did it all myself so I didn’t have to!) but when people did ask I always just said ‘happy’ – I guess fun and cheery without being too overdone, mixing shades and patterns of yellow, orange, white, peach & teals. We also wanted to make sure our guests had fun so we bought an array of temporary tattoos and had a ‘tattoo bar,’ we had mad lib advice cards for guests to fill out, smore supplies by the fireplace, sparklers for fun, a few decks of playing cards and had the game cards against humanity (my personal favorite) for those who had a little thicker skin!

The Couple’s Favorite Part

  • Our property’s rental period was Thursday through Sunday, so we were really excited to be able to spend the whole weekend there with our close friends and just enjoy every moment together. We had the bridal party stay on the property with us, so the days were filled with everyone pitching in to help set up, clean up or go grab food, and the nights were relaxing with dinner and drinks by the fire. Although this wasn’t exactly a moment IN the wedding, it is the biggest thing that, weeks after, still brings warmth to my heart– having everyone we love together in one place, goofing around, helping each other out, pitching in to get everything done, laughing, drinking. Life gets so busy, as adults you rarely get uninterrupted days with your friends – that time was priceless.

Big Day DIY Projects

  • My mom and I are both super crafty, so we wanted to supply all the décor for the wedding ourselves. We knew it was a big feat, but we wanted the day to be unmistakably “us.” We searched consignment stores & friends’ garages for months collecting vintage tea sets, mason jars and vases – my mom even poured all the candles herself!
  • I wrote all the signs myself, on chalkboard we cut & placed into a handful of frames we had. It was definitely a long process, but totally worth the end look and amazing feedback from the guests – the welcome sign to the reception was one of my favorite décor items of the entire day!
  • My mom is a big quilter so we both wanted to incorporate fabric into the décor. From her endless collection we made some bunting, strip curtains & aisle décor – I loved the airy & cherry feeling it added to the day
  • Kenny and I aren’t big picture people, so we didn’t want a slideshow or such, but my mom had one dire request: baby pictures. She worked with Kenny’s mom to print out pictures from both our childhood that aligned – birth, 1st birthday, sports, high school graduation, etc. – and put them in little frames on all our dinner tables. Looking back now, I am happy my mom didn’t back down on her request – it gave our family members who were meeting for the first time conversation starters!
  • Our parting gifts for our guests were little boxes of my mom’s homemade toffee – it’s legitimately the best thing in existence. Many of the guests admitted later to taking multiple boxes.
  • My mom even made my headpiece, she is amazing!

Jenna’s Advice For Brides Planning Now

  • Enjoy it! It’s stressful for sure, but it’s going to go by in a blink of an eye.
  • Get a day-of-planner. I am super particular so this was a challenge for me, but the day of your wedding you want to be focusing on the happiness of the day, not stressing about flowers – let them handle that!
  • Get a wine glass with a cover and a straw. Just trust me. It’s amazing.
