With the new Edge 810 and 510, Garmin has taken the most popular features of the current Edge 800 an Edge 500 and added on real-time
connectivity through your smartphone. On your next ride, you now have access to
advanced functionality like live tracking, instant workout uploads, social
media sharing, and real-time weather updates.
The new Edge 180 device features a 2.6” color display, up to 17-hours of battery life, and a simplified touchscreen interface. The GPS
enabled 810 is compatible with detailed street or TOPO maps for those rides
where you require navigation.
The Edge 510 is a more lightweight (80g) and compact version of the Edge 810, although still rugged, waterproof, and with a 20-hour battery life. Featuring a 2.2” sunlight readable touchscreen display, the 510 is
compatible with both GPS and GLONASS satellites for faster satellite acquisition
and improved signal lock.
The Edge 810 and 510 accurately track your speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned, ascent and descent. A
barometric altimeter is used to deliver more precise ascent and descent data on
your ride. Both devices are ANT+ compatible, so will work with your external power
meters, heart rate monitors, and speed/cadence sensors.
For real time connectivity, the Edge 510 and Edge 810 can be paired via Bluetooth to your iPhone or Android smartphone running the Garmin Connect Mobile app. This connection allows you to create Facebook or Twitter posts on your smartphone that automatically include the ride data from your Garmin to instantly share with your friends. The Garmin Connect Mobile app allows for automatic or manual wireless uploads of completed activities the instant you finish recording.
With the new the LiveTrack feature, your friends and family can follow your races or training rides in real-time. All they have to do is click on a link to follow your stats like speed and distance, heart rate, cadence and power, and location on the map. Before you set out on a ride in the morning, you can check real-time weather conditions, forecasts, and alerts directly on your Edge 810 or Edge 510 device.
The Edge 810 is available now for $499.99, while the Edge 510 will be available Q1 2013 for $329.99.
