From the bride:
My husband, a commercial waterman, planned the majority of our wedding. He insisted on having a low country boil with Chesapeake Bay Blue crabs, a oyster shucking station, and most importantly, a send off on his Chesapeake Bay Deadrise work boat.
To go along with his local themed ideas, I had bouquets put in old oyster tins and had a different local wine on each table. We wanted everything to have a natural “thrown together” feeling. So, we used a bathtub as a drink cooler, used mismatch country chairs, and had a rug for a dance floor.
We also incorporated a lot of sentimental details. We used the old doors from my church for the entrance to our ceremony. I added an “alter table” with a stained glass window and my gr andmother’s old Bible to create an outdoor church. We even had our guitarist and fiddliest learn old hymns to play as the wedding party walked up the aisle.
The best part of the wedding was seeing everything come together. Our friends and family spent so much time working on the wedding from scavenging antique stores for decorations to making corkscrew escort cards to match our wine bottle table numbers to making mismatch cloth napkins. We even had family friends cook and make the cake. Without their help we would not have been able to pull everything off!
