Spring is in the air and the start of rock climbing season is upon us, with the Red Rock Rendezvous kicking off this weekend. Major climbing brands have recently launched a plethora of new climbing shoes, with something out there for every level of climber. As no two shoes are alike, climber Steph Davis recently posted a great article on how to size your climbing shoes.
La Sportiva Futura (pictured top)
The new Futura from La Sportiva will help you send those technical projects. Featuring the company's No Edge concept, your foot is brought closer to the rock for better edging performance, increased sensitivity, and more homogeneous wear. An all-synthetic upper does not stretch out and the Fast Lacing System cinches down with a hook and loop closure. The downturned P3 platform gives you the power needed for more difficult problems. MSRP $170
Mad Rock Flash 2.0
The traditional leather upper has been combined with a synthetic stretch material to offer a more consistent fit. Mad Rock redesigned the 3D molded heel to maximize friction and added the new Shock Gel patch to reduce the impact force on your heel. A poly-carbonate midsole gives the Flash 2.0 a predictable flex throughout the life of the climbing shoe. MSRP $83
Millet Yalla and Myo Velcro
Part of the Millet Roc Session series, the Yalla and the Myo Velcro are ultra sensitive climbing shoes for the hardcore climber. Using laser technology, the new Millet Hook Effect adds micro-grooving to the rubber sole for enhanced stickiness and grip. The 4 Points Grip system under the heel adds even more hyper stickiness for those difficult heel hooks. A 3D Toe Hook helps you stay on those tiny holds. MSRP €90 and €120.
Scarpa Reflex and Helix
With a flat last, the new men's and women's Reflex (velcro) and Helix (lace up) are built for climbers looking for responsive climbing shoes that offer all day comfort. Suede uppers mold to your foot shape over time, creating the perfect fit. MSRP $99
Five Ten Coyote VCS Canvas
Using Stealth C4 rubber, the Coyote VCS is all about performance and comfort. This lined canvas climbing shoe forms to your foot over time, leaving no dead space or hotspots. Designed for entry level to advanced intermediate climbers, the Coyote VCS is an all-around performer. MSRP $110
Evolv Pontas II
Newly designed for Spring 2012, the Pontas II is a great entry point into the Sharma Signature Series. Evolv added a third opposing hook and loop strap to the climbing shoe for better fit and added security. The TRAX high friction rubber sole and medium stiffness midsole provide great control for edging, scumming, and smearing. MSRP $125
