We have a treat for you. Hannah Miles has done a sterling job capturing this stylish 1920’s wedding. This wedding was destined to be beautiful. When one of your best friends is a wedding dress designer how could it not be. I love how the rain didn’t even bother this lovely lot. Pop the kettle on, make yourself a brew and enjoy. ~ Kate
What was your budget?
More than we thought.
How would you describe your wedding theme?
What was your favourite part of your wedding?
My dress and marrying my husband of course!
Tell us about your Wedding Dress
My wedding dress was made by one of my best friends! She is a wedding dress designer so it helps. I told Helen Rhiannon what ideas I had for my dress and she designed it for me. I had a toile (test dress) made to look at the shape and fit and then she made it in the fabric we chose together. I had a say in how the dress developed but the creativity was all her’s. The the final piece was beautiful and better than I could ever have imagined.
Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why?
The best man was one of Ali’s friends from university. My bridesmaids were my 2 sisters, my 2 best friends from school (including Helen who made my dress) and my best friend from university.
Why did you choose your venue?
The first time we walked into Oldwalls , we knew we had found somewhere special. The venue is beautiful and the staff were always very attentive and nothing we could throw at them was too much. The whole process seemed very daunting at first but the wedding planners were always on hand to keep us on the right lines.
Tell us about your photographer
I found Hannah through my friend and dress designer Helen Rhiannon. They had worked together before and I heard she had a eye for detail which I really wanted as I was getting a bespoke wedding dress. She was lovely and friendly for our engagement shoot and put us at ease. On the day she worked quickly so we didn’t have to hold a pose too long and blended in so we have shots that captured the day.
How did the proposal happen?
We were travelling up the East coast of America on a career break and had made it to Richmond, Virginia. I wasn’t expecting it at all. We had been out for dinner and had just come back, I was getting ready for bed and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We went the next day to pick the ring out together.
What was your first dance & why?
We didn’t have a first dance as our song isn’t really something you can dance to so we had it playing whilst we signed the register. We had a first gamble instead!
In hindsight, was there anything you would have done differently?
No we were very organised which really helped on the day and we both really enjoyed ourselves. I’d say we should have taken some more time to stop and take it all in as it passed by so fast.
Do you have any advice for future couples?
Be organised! Ali had a spreadsheet of jobs in month order so we could do a few things every month without being over whelmed. By the time it came to the wedding we had completed everything we needed to which meant we could enjoy the days running up the wedding with family and friends.
What was your favourite thing about planning a wedding?
The food tasting! I really enjoyed time I got to spend with friends and family who helped bring all our ideas to life and helped us plan out our day.
