Back in May, we heard news that McDonald’s would be transforming its paper placemats into “a full music production station”; its McTrax Placemats weremade fully playable, thanks to the technological wonder that is conductive ink. Another fast-food giant is joining the fun in the form of Pizza Hut, which has created what it calls “the world's first playable DJ pizza box.”
The new pizza box replicates a series of standard features you’d get in a normal turntable setup, including two decks, volume and pitch control, as well as a crossfader. It syncs with your computer or smartphone using Bluetooth and connects with DJ software such as Serato .
Brought to our attention by FACT Magazine , the pizza boxes were designed by printing electronics specialists Novalia (with whom we spoke a feature interview last year), and use the aforementioned conductive ink to transfer your touches on the pizza boxes across to your electronic device, allowing you to mix.
For the moment, the boxes are limited to Pizza Hut locations in the UK. But you can watch a demo below, thanks to DJ Vectra , and keep your fingers crossed they make it Stateside.
