DIY | Felt Anemone

This post is the sixth of 8 amazing felt flower tutorials that I’m sharing this week — culminating in a gorgeous felt wedding bouquet!!! These projects aren’t for the faint of DIY heart, although I break these flowers down step by step to make them as simple as possible – they will take some time and creativity. The energy spent will be well worth it in the end – trust me. Flowers that don’t die are awesome!

In talking about handmade flowers – we are singing the praises of felt. Unlike paper, felt flowers are thick, sturdy and can withstand all that your wedding day could throw at them. Paper can rip and crumple in a flash – but not felt! There is something so old-school crafty about felt… and I love it. So without further ado, here is our sixth felt flower – the super sweet anemone.

SUPPLIES:

  • wool felt (colors: oats, graphite and fern)
  • 1 cm wool felt pom poms for the center of the flower
  • good scissors
  • hot glue gun – that does “low heat”
  • 18 gauge floral wire
  • wire cutters

Below is a chart on how to cut all your anemone petals! You’ll need to cut a strip of graphite felt with little slits to make part of the center of the flower. You’ll also need to cut tear-drop shaped petals – it’s easiest to start with squares, but unlike the cabbage rose – these petals have a flat top. Also cut one wavy circle leaf for the underside of the flower.

  • 1 graphite pom pom center
  • 1 graphite rectangle with slits
  • 9 flat-top tear drop petals
  • 1 leaf petal

To make the flower center: snip a small “x” into the pom pom ball. Then add a little hot glue and stick your floral wire inside. Next, add hot glue to the base of your center rectangle and wrap it completely around the pom pom. Fan out the little cut pieces and you have your center!

Next add your petals – use four petals as the first layer and the other 5 as the underneath layer.

Cut a slit in the green leaf petal, slide on the flower stem, glue and pinch to finish off the flower.

This super sweet bloom is much less labor intensive than some of our other felt flowers but still packs a darling punch!
