A Three-Part Indian Wedding in NYC: The Reception

If you have been following Nitasha and Amar’s Sangeet and ceremony on Merci New York, then you are probably thinking that the reception will follow the same colorful, beautiful vibe that you’ve seen in posts past… and you are right!  For the third part of the wedding, Nitasha and Amar had their reception at The Brooklyn Museum . The venue incorporated the bride and groom’s vision of creating an art deco- speakeasy theme…. and it was BEYOND.  Take a peek!

The floral elements included elevated wrought-iron arrangements of deep purple, pale green, and ivory, as well as candles with a damask motif. Soft lavender lighting was used in the inner court of the space, and amber lighting used in the surrounding space to highlight the European art lining the walls. Guests were also invited to trickle into the Egyptian gallery during the evening. The bride and groom wanted to create an inviting space for guests to mingle, while allowing the works of art to take center stage, especially since Amar and Nitasha do not enjoy spotlight!

The cocktail hour took place in the glass and brick pavilion of The Brooklyn Museum . Nitasha and Amar chose simple amber-hued lighting and candles to accent the Rodin statues. Guests found their place cards on an antique map of European cities.

The long bar was flanked by antique urns with floral arrangements including deep purple callalilies with pale green and white accents. The ambiance and fusion-jazz quartet made for a fun speakeasy vibe.

For the reception, Nitasha wore a pale gold chiffon sari-gown with crystal accents by Indian designer, Gaurav Gupta and art deco inspired necklace and earrings from “Krsala” {Hyderabad, India}.   Amar wore a black Ralph Lauren suit with wool tie by Bruer, accented with a Jaeger le Coultre watch and Moustache cufflinks, which were a gift from his bride.

The cake was a four tier chocolate with hazelnut ganache cake, cream with pale green accents, fresh purple calla lilies, and a whimsical elephant cake-topper.  Wedding favors were customized tins of “gifts from the grandmas”- Nitasha’s grandmother’s chilli spice, and Amar’s grandmother’s regional tea leaves. To pair with the design of the cake, sugar cookies were served in an elephant design to keep with the theme.

And after planning all three parts of the event, Nitasha and Amar have quite a lot of wonderful memories to treasure.

Their best advise for brides and grooms to be?  “Have a clear idea of which parts of the day matter most to you, and don’t worry too much about the rest,” said the bride.
