Six Stunning Golden Globe Looks We Love

The Golden Globes may just be my favorite awards show of the season {sorry, Oscar}.  The eclectic mix of film and tv stars, the dinner-setting vibe, the commentary on the carpet… Something about it is a little more casual – and as a result, I feel like there are more fashion statements, risks and faux-pas to be made!  Woohoo.

Of course, I had a larger post that delved into the good, the bad and the ugly… But I thought best of it and wanted to keep it all positive for the blog!  See below for my favorite fashion-stylist picks of the show… And {just a hint} for more of the true commentary, check out our titter feed {@MerciNYC}.  We can’t wait to hear whose looks you loved this year!

Six Stunning Golden Globe Looks We Love

Kerry Washington’s Miu Miu gown topped my best dressed list for the 2013 Golden Globes! The plunging neckline {a major trend of the night}, the blush color, and the unexpected midi-length dress were all so fresh, fashionable and elegant. It looked new, it looked hot and it looked like a style that will transcend down to the masses this season. I also adored her blunt bangs and semi-statement Chopard jewels… She was a total vision of modern style and I think she was a little overlooked by other fashion experts – I loved this look!

Kate Hudson was my other best dressed of the evening. Her Alexander McQueen gown was sexy, chic, so UN-red carpet, AND so on point with what’s going on in fashion right now. The dress had a decidedly 70 edge, and was paired with a plunge neckline that was absolutely killer. A few folks tweeted me last night, saying they wished her hair was up… I get what they were saying, I have to disagree – If her hair were any fusier, I think the neckline would read so much harsher.  I think her golden locks perfectly complimented the vibe of the dress!

Nicole Richie has a knack for doing vintage-inspired style *just right* – and I think this look is a perfect example of how she makes it work. The embroidered light blue Naeem Khan gown was stunning in its own right, but when juxtaposed with an edgy, fringe clutch, it became much more current. Then, she adds matching blue – yes, blue! – eye shadow. This could have gone terribly wrong, but somehow the shadow, dress and clutch combined for the perfect cocktail of vintage, polish and edge!

Everyone was calling Jessica Alba a trend setter last night, and I have to admit, when I first saw her walk down the red carpet, I thought she looked gorgeous. However, despite the collective twittersphere swoon, I don’t think coral is a trend just because she wore it.   This is a super tricky color to wear, and it doesn’t work for everyone {especially paler gals like me}!   Luckily, Jessica’s golden complexion and perfect {post-two children?!} frame is what makes it fab.

Of course, Anne Hathaway was a vision in Chanel. But there was something about the understated {yet interesting} silhouette and her very minimal accessorizing that made it truly perfect. I think this look shows that a dress can really shine alone without a whole lot of extra hoopla… It looked perfect with her her slightly grown in pixie cut. To me, Anne was positivity gracious and gorgeous.

I always think Helen Mirren fabulous job of dressing in a tasteful, un-dowdy and chic way. Obviously she’s a bit older than the other ladies I highlighted, but instead of donning one of the more traditional gowns more mature women were wearing, she went with a deco-inspired Badgley Mischka gown and 20s-inspired earrings that was fresh and flattering, all without being too young. I think she’s a great example of how older women can embrace fashion trends.

So… those are my top six leading ladies of the night!  I can’t wait to hear more about your favorites!  Do dish…

Stylishly,
