Pooja and Nils’ pre-wedding celebration was a wash of color, music, dance, food and family, combining both the Mehndi and Sangeet party traditions.
The Mehndi party is a festive occasion where the bride and close female members of her family have henna painted on their hands and feet while the rest of the family celebrates with songs. The Mehndi signifies the strength of love in a family, so brides try to leave it on as long as possible. The celebration is traditionally attended only by women, but Pooja and Nils combined its traditions with that of the Sangeet party, a much larger affair held for both men and women of both families. It too is an opportunity to sing songs, eat, drink and dance the night away.
