We can’t get enough of Shannon and Kyle’s dramatic black and white styled civil ceremony in Scotland! Wanting to ensure the ultimate surprise, the couple revealed their engagement to a handful of family members only a few months before the wedding. Shannon was totally rocking her civil ceremony bridal look with an ultra glamorous tea-length Delphine Manivet gown and elegant black Christian Louboutin ankle-tie pumps. Shannon and Kyle tied the knot in a ceremony at the Glasgow Registrar’s Office, then Eric-Rene Penoy Wedding Photography captured their celebratory romp around Glasgow University and deliciously intimate charcuterie dinner.

The Wedding:
Glasgow Registrar’s Office , Glasgow, Scotland
The most important part of planning was making sure the wedding was totally ours. We kept our engagement a secret and only told our parents and Kyle‘s siblings about the wedding three months before it happened so they could buy flights to Glasgow to be with us for the ceremony. We chose the date (03/30/2016) to honor Shannon‘s late mother. Shannon‘s father, Ian, and mother, Marie, were married in the Glasgow registrar’s office exactly forty years prior.
I knew I didn’t want a conventional wedding dress. Kyle actually found my dress (he is the designer in the couple)! I gave him the inspirations of Mia Farrow, Bianca Jagger, and Yoko Ono. He found Delphine Manivet and the Prospere dress and I immediately said “That’s the one.” It was the only showing room we visited. Kyle then chose his suit – a tuxedo with a twist – based upon my dress choice.
Our photographer Eric was wonderful and completely embraced the spontaneity of the day. Kyle (an architect) and I have explored many beautiful cities all over the world together on foot, and it felt right that we capture our wedding day by taking a walk around Glasgow and taking photos at some of the city’s most iconic sites. I knew I wanted to take photos at Glasgow University, where my mother went to school, but a lot of the other sites we just found as we walked around the city center after the ceremony and as we strolled through the West End.
Our wedding planning advice: have fun doing it. We chose a small surprise wedding, some call it a “pop-up wedding.” We found the dress, tux, and rings together. We bought the dress and the engagement ring on a romantic weekend in New York in January before the wedding and treated ourselves to a stay at the ACE Hotel and wonderful dinners.
