PELLE are Korean-American designer Jean Pelle and German designer Oliver Pelle who met and studied at the Yale School of Architecture. From their studio in Red Hook Brooklyn they create products, lighting, furniture and architecture. Their design are a little whimsical but also very functional.
The Bubble Chandeliers are delicate and airy compositions of luminous glass globe clusters. Starting with the Original Bubble Chandelier designed in 2008, the series has developed into a collection of distinctive lights that artfully combines PELLE’s signature material palette of cotton and leather cording with blown-glass globes.
The Entry Console is compact and initially created for the designers’ own narrow apartment hallway where space was limited, but the need for storage great. Despite its playful and whimsical exterior, it offers serious interior storage utility.
The wall-mounted Vanity Cabinet combines all the necessary features for one’s daily grooming regimen. An interior cork board allows the user to pin up a photo or note from a loved one. A single light bulb illuminates the face while the extendable mirror doubles as a magnifying looking glass. The Quadrat Series is a line of wood lattice tables that explore the simple and elegant form of the grid as a three-dimensional object. The name “Quadrat” comes from the German word for ‘square’, the formal building block of the lattice structure. Its distinctive design is in the lightweight yet strong wood construction of its open grid geometry.
The Soap Stones are handcrafted glycerine soap intended for both use and display.Drawing from a material palette inspired by naturally occurring gemstones such as Rose Quartz and Aquamarine and metamorphic rock such as Jade and Onyx, the soaps combine these brilliant colors with the potent effects of essential oils such as Eucalyptus and Camphor.
