Track of the Day: Wants Constructs Industrial-Strength Techno Cut “Something Out”

With Jakwob running point on Boom Ting Recordings, the UK-based imprint has every reason to be taken seriously. They’ve proved this point many times over, having already gotten behind next-gen acts from the likes of Tru Fonix, Kano, Ragga Twins and Troy Gunner. Seeing the latter added to that list encouraged Polish duo Wants to step up to the plate and send in their new EP, Icntu, for consideration. Jakwob knew all four joints would be fully justified in sitting next to the others on his hyper-selective catalog.

“Something Out,” a sweaty and stripped-to-the-bone offering, lands modestly on the minimal side of the fence. Relying heavily on an arresting vocal loop, the tune makes great use of mechanical percussion and alleyway textures to get its message across. It’s the drums that give this industrial-strength number the force to wedge itself into the warehouse.

In Wants’ own words:

Every track on this EP was basically made in an hour or so. It was a very natural process doing these tunes, ‘cause they just... happened. Obviously, we then spend weeks trying to figure out how they should sound as a final project, but as with most of our tracks (that are not terrible), it was pretty easy stuff to work with, as we enjoyed them from the beginning. Being a part of Boom Ting is awesome. We love where the label is going and how different every release is from another. We followed it for a while, and when we saw Troy Gunner releasing his Slack in the Noose, we thought, “Maybe we should send our tracks over.” Luckily, Jakwob liked our tracks, and now we are about to become [the] biggest electronic stars in the world. The only problem is, we still don't remember what Icntu means.

Available September 2 via Boom Ting Recordings.
