The Best Damn Gloves Ever?

The Best Damn Gloves Ever?

Self-proclaimed the “Best Damn Gloves Ever,” the 4-Season Give’r Gloves appear to be a runaway success on Kickstarter with just a few days left in the campaign. Named after the oft-used Canadian saying, Give’r is a small outdoor apparel company based in Jackson Hole–this is their second glove offering after the Classic Give’r Glove.

Last week, the team sent me a pair of personally branded 4-Season Give’r Gloves to have a look for myself. While I haven’t actually had the chance to put them to the test beyond wearing them around the house, they look like they would make awesome belay/rappel gloves. The leather gloves remind me of my current belay gloves of choice–the Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Gloves–and at half the price.

The outermost layer of the 4-Season Give’r Gloves is made from top grade cow leather that is tanned and treated to be highly water-resistant. The leather is soft and quick to break in, with reinforcements on the palms and fingertips for added wear and tear protection.

The 4-Season Give’r Gloves are wind- and waterproof thanks to a Hipora membrane that works to keep your hands warm and dry all day. This membrane features tiny microscopic perforations that enable water vapor to escape so you don’t end up with a sweaty mess inside. I don’t know much about the Hipora membrane construction inside the gloves but when you put them on, you can hear a plastic-y crinkling. Not sure if that will remain in the production models…

Lined with a layer of Thinsulate insulation, the leather gloves are rated from below zero up to 300 degrees F so will protect your hands in a variety of conditions.

I appreciate that the 4-Season Give’r Gloves come in a wide variety of sizing so you can get a close fit for added dexterity in fiddly tasks. You can even choose to have your gloves further hand-treated and baked with bee’s wax, resulting in a worn in look and adding an extra layer of protection.

A pledge of $69 is a pretty good price for a leather do everything glove. If anything else,  you can’t go wrong looking at “Give’r” written on the back of your gloves all day as a reminder to get out there and get after it.
