Perfecting your sound design can often mean dropping some serious cash on the latest and greatest software and gear, especially if you want to own legitimate products. Luckily, Xfer Records and Splice have come up with a new concept that hopes to ease high costs.

Serum is the go-to synth for producers worldwide and is partially responsible for some of the biggest dancefloor hits of the past few years. Splice and Xfer want to level the playing field when it comes to accessing this powerful synth and have thus recently launched a rent-to-own model that allows users to “rent” the full version of the software and use it to their desire for $9.99 a month. Users continue paying until the software is completely paid off, and if for some reason you need to take a break from making payments, you get to keep the progress you’ve made toward paying for the product and pick up right where you left off.

The two companies say this is just the first offering, as they plan on changing the model for purchasing production software. They’re aiming to integrate even more cloud-based tools to make purchasing and owning production software easier and more affordable.
