The latest addition to the Phantom line of climbing boots, the Phantom Tech are the lightest boots Scarpa has yet to make. With a brand new gaiter design, the boots are created for full-condition ice, mixed, and alpine climbing.
The Phantom Tech are the result of a thoughtful redesign to the popular Phantom Guide climbing boots. The integrated gaiter offers a new patent-pending zipper construction called Flexseal, which eliminates stress points on the waterproof zipper–it spirals around your foot rather than zipping straight up the front where you need the most bend.
The gaiter is backed by an OutDry membrane, making them waterproof and ensuring no water or dirt gets stuck behind the fabric. The inner boot features a quick lace system for you to dial in the fit and is easy to operate even when wearing gloves.
At 830 grams (1 pound, 12.7 ounces) per boot, the Phantom Tech come in 15% lighter than their predecessor. To shave weight without losing warmth, Scarpa re-designed the sole and combined a carbon fiber insole board with a Cordura Microtech, 3D mesh/aluminum and Primaloft Micropile insulated shell construction.
The Scarpa Phantom Tech will retail for $749 and available next winter. These boots definitely join the Arc’teryx Acrux AR GTX in the want category for this coming winter’s ice and alpine climbing adventures.
