A group of fishermen off Los Suenos in Costa Rica almost got more than they bargained for when a hooked marlin almost smashed into their boat.
The accompanying silent footage--especially the slow-motion portion at the end--shows how close the crazed billfish came to striking the stern. (Footage is via Marlin Magazine .)
The boat is Never Say Never and the angler was Kaleb Lazor-Carr.
This is not out of the ordinary. Most veteran marlin anglers have had close calls, and some have even endured painful episodes after marlin have jumped into the boats.
One such encounter, last year off Cairns, Australia, involved a 600-pound black marlin that caused significant damage but, fortunately, no injuries. Click here to see the video .
