One of the biggest shocks for the dance industry this year was the announcement that Swedish superstar Avicii would be retiring from the EDM life , fulfilling his remaining gig commitments before bowing out of the touring circuit. Eventually, even this last run of gigs would be significantly slimmed down, with the news he’d pulled out of his remaining Las Vegas shows. Today, Avicii took to his social networks to confirm his shows this weekend would be his last.
“Excited for the huge show in Belfast tonight and the last weekend of my life of touring,” Avicii said on Facebook early this morning. Several hours later, he uploaded a new cover shot detailing his upcoming residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza this Sunday night and confirmed it will be his “last show.”
Meanwhile, he’s felt little need to discuss where he’ll be heading next, with avicii.com still featuring the emotional open letter from back in March, when he announced his retirement.
“Thank you for letting me fulfill so many of my dreams,” he said. “I will be forever grateful to have experienced and accomplished all that I have with the help of the team around me and my beloved fans. Thank you to all my peers in the business for building a new movement that took the world by storm and I was lucky enough to be in the middle of it.
“One part of me can never say never, I could be back... but I won’t be right back.”
