When the Discovery Project first began, the opportunities for up-and-coming talent to get their shine on were few and far between. The mission of tapping into the expansive diversity of the talent pool existing throughout electronic music is one that continues to turn out some of the finest artists in the industry. This year, Electric Forest joined Discovery Project in welcoming two new artists into the family. AIRWAV and Sheni Doko both represent the kind of creativity and artistic integrity we have found in all of our past Discovery Project winners, and they’re surely on their way to changing the face of dance music for years to come.
Hailing from New York, AIRWAV owns the ability to mold synths into gorgeously funky melodies, which has garnered support from Diplo , Gramatik and Delta Heavy , just to name a few. Sheni Doko comes to us from New Jersey. His love for Jersey kick patterns and twisted synths has earned him a spot as a resident with Laidback Luke ’s Mixmash Records and as a DJ at the now-defunct Pacha New York.
These two dynamic artists recently rocked the stages at Electric Forest and are sure to pop up again at a festival near you. Take a moment to meet our newest members of the Discovery Project family.
Sheni Doko
Hometown: Wayne, NJ
Currently Living: New Jersey
Origin of Name: Sheni is actually my middle name, which my Nana gave me—so for that reason, it is pretty special. Doko was my original last name before my grandfather legally changed it. Don’t ask why; that’s a long story [laughs].
Weapon of Choice: Chinese food—that shit is the real-life Senzu Bean, a gift from the gods. It cures depression and anxiety and all sicknesses. It gives you strength and boosts your self-esteem and sex drive—basically everything that pill from the movie Limitless did. If anyone tells you otherwise, dead them immediately. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.
Source of Power: My creativity stems from a few things: Chinese food, sushi, my Nana, and my ‘90s/early 2000s music.

Origin of Name: I came up with the name after I made a few songs and wanted to release them under a new alias. I wanted a name that would fit the vibe of the new music I was making, but also would still be cool. It really just came to me in the moment.
Weapon of Choice: For producing, Logic Pro 9 all day. Or a laser chainsaw—that’d be dope.
Source of Power: My parents, funk music, corny movies, and everything around me, I guess.
