Doug and Kate had their first date at an ice skating rink, where Doug tried his best to help Kate, a skating novice, around the rink. Doug ended the date with a sweet gift of Kate's favorites. "For a couple of days leading up to our first date, Doug and I had talked on the phone, and I mentioned that I loved flowers, horses, and that my favorite color was blue," shared Kate. "At the end of our first date, he reached into the backseat of his car and handed me beautiful blue flowers and a stuffed animal horse (which I still have today, almost four years later!). It was such a surprise and so sweet!" For the next six months, Doug and Kate continued to build their relationship long distance until Doug moved to Richmond to be with Kate and begin his student teaching.

Almost two years later, Doug and Kate went to a hockey game. After the game was over, Doug invited Kate out onto the ice, and proposed to Kate while their favorite song, 'I and Love and You,' by the Avett Brothers played. "As he got down on one knee, he said: "I figure you will need an ice skating partner for the rest of your life since you're so terrible at ice skating...Will you marry me?"

The couple married last May at the stunning Bishop's Chapel at Roslyn in Richmond, and then celebrated at the nearby country club. The classically elegant affair was decorated with vibrant purple flowers, lanterns and candlelight. The sweet details were all captured by Anna Grace Photography .
