When on your mountain bike, it’s always tricky approaching hikers or joggers on a trail and alerting them to your presence without majorly startling them. I hate having to yell, “On your left!” as it sounds so abrupt. I would love to ride with the Timber mountain bike bell that gives off a cheerful little ring to let people know you are coming.
Timber appears to be the first bike bell designed exclusively for mountain biking. While two hours of constant bell ringing would drive you crazy, this mountain bike bell gives you awareness when you need it, and silence when you don’t. A simple on/off lever controls the internal clapper. Slide it down for on, up for off. Or set it in between for a quieter sound.
The motion of the bike activates the sound. Because the sound is passive, you communicate to other trail users a friendly, “Hey, I’m just letting you know I’m here.” The advance notice gives hikers or oncoming riders time to find a safe place to move off the trail.
The Timber mountain bike bell mounts on your handlebars within easy reach of your hands. The bell its all handlebar diameters–from standard 22 mm all the way to 35 mm DH style. Mount it on the bars for occasional use, or directly on the grips for instant shifting between silent and ring mode . It’s quick release, so you can easily move it to another bike.
The Timber mountain bike bell retails for $20 and is available now. Approved by IMBA, maybe something as small as this is one large step towards helping us all get along.
