Hoooraay for another special #DIYwednesday feature. If you haven’t heard, I’ve happily partnered with Fiskars – my favorite craft tool brand – to bring you 6 awesome DIY tutorials directly inspired by amazing real DIY weddings I’ve featured here on Something Turquoise. Being a whimsical, beach loving gal – I am obsessed with this project. It is fun, bright, friendly and so easy that you could enlist help from your ring bearer and flower girl! In this post I am sharing how to make the most darling Heart Aisle Pick Decor that can be stuck into sand, dirt or grass… basically, whatever type of land that your venue is offering!

REAL DIY WEDDING INSPIRATON

The third real wedding that we are flashing back to for crafty inspiration is of Michelle + Gabor . It’s a colorful DIY wedding dream come true on beautiful farmland with awesome handmade details and even wood fired pizza for dinner! But I really fell in love with their aisle decor! Photographed by the amazingly talented Lucky Malone .

Hearts On A Stick – Aisle Decor

If you are a whimsical DIY bride, there isn’t even a question of you being in love with this idea! I know you are obsessed… because I am! The second I saw this adorable detail I thought it was genius. It is seriously one of the easiest projects to tackle, so even if this is the only element that you DIY for your event – you’ll be glad you did because it’s so charming!

Trim Your Paper

The paper I used is 12″ x 12″ cardstock for scrapbooking. Trim it into 2″ strips by using your choice of paper trimmer, here I am using the LED SureCut Trimmer from Fiskars that actually lights up along the cut line! Each 12″ page will give you 6 strips… the perfect size to punch out the hearts.

Punch Your Heart Out

Slide each strip of paper into your That’s Amore Punch and squeeze! You can get five hearts out of each 12″ strip.

Choosing Colors

Choose colors that fit your wedding or event theme… using at least 4 different solid colors, 3 patterned papers and a metallic! Choosing the papers is the most fun part of this project :-)

Even the scraps look pretty…

Assemble Your Heart Sticks

You will need 2 hearts for each stick. Add a little hot glue to the middle of the heart, then add the stick. Add a little more hot glue to each side of the heart and cover with the second heart. Firmly hold the hearts together for about 10 seconds, or until the hot glue is cool.

How Many Sticks Will You Need?

First, measure the area you want to cover in hearts and then decide if you want them all packed together like you see here… or more spread apart.

  • Packed together = you’ll need 12 for each foot
  • Spread apart = 6 for each foot will do
