Summer and ice cream go hand in hand, that’s why creating an adorable ice cream bar like this for your summer wedding event would be the perfect idea! Whether it’s your engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party or wedding day, your guests will love to dive spoon first into this delicious dessert display. Easily personalize your bar by serving only your favorite ice cream flavors along with your favorite toppings – giving your guests the experience of what it’s like to be you. A cute chalkboard sign with a nod to an awesome Sarah Mclachlan song is the final touch. It’s the unique details like this that will make your wedding stand out from the rest and that’s what I and Sur La Table hope to help you do!
Choose Your Toppings!
The easiest way to personalize this bar is by the ingredients. You’ll need is to decide what kinds of toppings and cones (or bowls) that you’d like to serve to your guests; I used sugar and regular cones, including a gluten free version. Unless you and your fiancé agree on toppings, I would each choose 2 or three to serve. Here my toppings are displayed in Italian dessert bowls from Sur La Table which seemed like the ultimate choice and how cute are those little bamboo spoons ?! The ice cream cones are displayed on a gorgeous vintage-style cake stand that I am obsessed with to say the least.
Just in case you need some ideas for yummy toppings…
- Sprinkles (maybe make a custom mix using your wedding colors!)
- Mini-chocolate chips
- Crushed Oreos (or any candy bar)
- Walnuts, almonds, peanuts
- Gummy Bears
- Crushed Graham Crackers
- Fresh Fruit
- M&M’s
- Marshmallows
- Andie’s Mints
- Cookie dough bites
- Canned cherries
- Chocolate or Caramel Sauce
Chalkboard Sign How-to:
For the chalkboard sign , I sketched my lettering on paper first and then traced it onto the sign using the same pencil transfer technique I share in this post . I did the lettering using this awesome chalk pencil that you will love. I thought this saying was perfect… and now I can’t stop signing the song… and yes I’m from the 90’s, lol!
Keep Your Ice Cream Cool!
The number one thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need to keep your ice cream cold. Here I’ve got mine buried in a galvanized ice bucket from Sur La Table , that fit the gallon ice cream perfectly. I put a fair amount of ice in the bottom and all around the sides to help it keep its chill. The ice cream spade I chose to use is such an awesome tool, it cuts right through the cream and makes it easy to pack cones… speaking of which, my favorite thing is to layer toppings and ice cream inside the cones themselves – each layer is a fun surprise!
A typical gallon of ice cream will serve roughly 12-14 people so keep that in mind when buying supplies for your bar. You also might want to designate someone to help keep an eye on it so that it says clean and stocked!
I love everything about this ice cream bar idea, but my most favorite element has to be the Jadite Cake Stand from Sur La Table … it’s absolutely gorgeous and the perfect way to display the ice cream cones. It’s large enough that you could also fit small bowls on it as well. Since this very well might be the dessert at your wedding instead of cake, this is a great way to still include a pretty cake stand!
