Peaks Around the World

This week’s #Frifotos theme is “peaks” — and I had quite a few from which to choose!

I love mountains.  I was never really much of a mountain girl until I started traveling — then I fell in love with them.  They give me a level of peace that I’ve struggled to find elsewhere in nature.

I’m off to explore more mountains next week — the Alps, once again, but in France for the first time.  I’ll be in Grenoble and Lyon, the heart of the Rhone-Alpes region.  But for now, enjoy these pictures of peaks that I’ve enjoyed around the world.

Peaks Around the World

One of my favorite mountainous experiences — paragliding through the Alps in Interlaken, Switzerland.

Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, doesn’t have a traditional peak — it’s flat on top — but it’s a spellbinding mountain all the same.

I loved this little village halfway up a mountain in Liechtenstein.  It gets the last sun of the day in the tiny principality.

I wasn’t expecting the area around Petra, Jordan, to be so mountainous — or so dramatic.

Climbing up Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales, was one of my bigger physical achievements of last year.  Which was dashed to the ground when I saw how many ridiculously fit people RAN up and down the mountain!

I was surprised by the beautiful mountainous scenery in central Croatia on the way to the Plitvice Lakes.  A very calm, rural beauty.

And now for something different — the mountains outside Pai, Thailand.  The perfect place to ride a motorbike.

And, as always, a shot of the Alps and Innsbruck below.  Climbing this mountain was absolutely insane.

Which mountainous photo is your favorite?
