This town’s claim to fame undoubtedly lies in the lavish and exquisite Newport mansions. Located along the gorgeous cliff walk, which is an absolute must-see for all visitors, these mansions are sumptuous to an extreme. You could spend days walking along the cliffs, exploring these stately homes, and learning about how the wealthy lived during the Gilded Age. These mansions and the cliff walk are a short bike ride away from the downtown Newport area.
Part of Newport’s charm lies in the fact that it is a walking town. Everything in the downtown area- the hotels, the restaurants, the baseball field, the boats, etc- is within an easy walking distance. Strolling along the quaint streets with your sweetheart, watching a gorgeous sun set over the harbor is the perfect way to spend a romantic evening in Newport.
Since it’s right on the water, boating is obviously a popular pastime! Renting a boat is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Boat past the striking Claiborne Pell Bridge, keep an eye out for the Newport Harbor lighthouse, and you are sure to have a great time. There’s nothing like the freedom of boating and the feeling of being out on the water! Rentals start around $40 per hour.
