How did you get your start in the industry?

I started working in the industry by working with a wedding planner in Southern California when I lived out there. I started working as one of her Day-of wedding assistants. When we moved back to Colorado, I worked as the wedding coordinator for an independent catering company in Vail, working on high end weddings at private residences, ranches and other various mountain venues. From there I worked for a Fort Collins hotel in their catering department and then finally worked as the full service wedding planner for a local wedding planner in Fort Collins. Unfortunately her company went out of business and I then proceeded to open my own company in 2009.

What is your favorite perk of the job?

My favorite perk of the job is getting to go to all the conferences and learning about the new trends in events. I am so lucky to work in such a fun and exciting industry! There are some amazing conferences that expose you to new design ideas and styles. It’s really great to have the opportunity to be creative and stretch my talents to benefits my clients.

What are your favorite wedding trends right now?

I really love the gold trend that is going on right now. It’s so classic and elegant. I also love the current trend of rustic yet elegant. We are starting to see a shift away from the mason jar overload of the past few years and moving towards a more elegant style. While rustic is still a top trends, brides are mixing it will natural elements, such as wooden boxes and farm tables, to give it a more high end look but still personable and simple.

What is your go-to color palette

My go to color palette is fall colors. Since I live in Colorado, fall in the mountains is so beautiful and colorful! I love planning fall weddings and taking the beautiful colors of orange, red, yellow, copper and brown and matching it with the brides design style. It never fails that I have a few fall themed weddings each year and it’s so fun to figure out how to make them all unique and different while still using the same color palette.

Describe your own personal wedding style.

For my own personal wedding style, I prefer a more modern approach. I love the look of clean lines and contemporary design. I find that I am drawn to neutral color pallets but have a pop of color to bring some wow factor into the picture. I also love dramatic lighting and adding statement pieces to a wedding. It’s a great way to add a bit of wow without going overboard (and staying on budget!)

What is your favorite Wedding Paper Divas design?

This is a hard question because there are so many great ones! I really love the new letterpress and laser cut invitation suites . The laser cut offers such bold and unique statement that guests see when opening their envelope. It really sets the tone of a fun and non-traditional wedding. But, I love letterpress! There is something that is so classic and elegant about a thick letterpress invitation arriving in the mail. It is really timeless and shows the brides cares about quality yet loves simplicity.

What is one thing you tell all your brides-to-be?

Something that I always tell my brides is that once they have a vision and a direction, its time to stop messing around on Pinterest! There are so many options out there a bride can waste hours going back and forth about a decision she made or trying to incorporate every cute idea she has seen. Find your vision that fits your personality and style and then stop looking! It will only drive yourself crazy and you won’t make any progress actually planning your wedding!

Also make sure to hire professionals. We’ve all heard the sayings “you get what you pay for” and ‘if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” Well the same thing goes for hiring your wedding vendors. This is going to be the biggest party you’ll ever host, and while it doesn’t mean that you have to break the bank for it, if you getting quotes from vendors, just realize the cheapest isn’t always the best option. I have seen it time and time again when the wedding is over, the bride wish she would have invested in a quality vendor instead of going with the cheapest one, and you are not able to ever get that back.
