Hooray for DIY Friday! Today you’re getting a sneak peek of a creative beach wedding shoot that I put together for Cricut . On Monday I’ll be sharing the full shoot and I have 7 DIY projects from it, coming for you throughout the week – I seriously cannot wait to share it all! Based on the theme of the shoot I created these darling, Barefoot Beach Sandals and after the fact, it dawned on me that they would make a great DIY. Within this tutorial, I recreated them for myself using turquoise beads of course with a color-blocked design. Feel free to use any beads that tickle your fancy or go with your unique wedding theme!
A Beach Wedding Must
The darling little-beaded beauties would be the absolute perfect finishing touch to your beach wedding look!
SUPPLIES:
- Small beads
- Seed beads
- Softflex Beading Wire, fine
- Pliers
- Wire cutters
- Twine
- 2 Clasps
- 4 Jump rings
- 8 Crimp beads
- Piece of felt
Measure Your Foot
Every single foot will be different, even your own feet might be a bit different. So I figured out a SUPER easy way to customize these barefoot sandals by measuring your foot with twine. Start with a long piece of twine, wrap it under your second toe and tie a knot within a half inch of the base of your toe. Then with both pieces of twine together, tie another knot about a half inch away from your ankle. Then wrap the two ends around your ankle and cut where they touch. Remove the string from your foot and you now have the perfect, custom pattern to follow!
Set Yourself Up
When beading I like to work on a piece of felt so that my beads don’t roll around. Trim your beads off their string or pour them onto the felt. Then cut a piece of the Softflex beading wire at least double the length of your string pattern.
Between The Toe Beads
The beads you should use for the part of the sandal that goes between your toes are called “seed beads”, they are very small and will be comfortable while wearing. Add seed beads to the middle of the wire, until they are the same size as your twine pattern.
Top Of The Foot Beads
For the next section of beading, hold the flex wire in half and then place together. Feed a small bead (not your seed beads) onto both pieces of wire at the same time. Continue to add the small beads until they reach the second knot in your twine pattern.
Around The Ankle Beads
Now we will be adding beads to the individual wires. Add two seed beads to each, followed by small beads. Keep adding small beads until they reach the cut part of your twine pattern.
Add The Clasp
Onto one side of the wire, add two crimp beads and then one clasp. Once the clasp is on, feed the wire then back through just the two crimp beads and pull it tight. Using your small pliers crimp the crimp beads until flat, this secures the end of the wire.
Add The Jump Rings
Place two jump rings together and then do the same thing you did with the clasp. Add two crimp beads and then thread the wire through one jump ring. Then feed the wire back through just the two crimp beads and pull it tight. Using your small pliers crimp the crimp beads until flat, securing the end of the wire.
Onto The Next One
Once you’ve finished the first foot… it’s onto the next one!
Use Any Pretty Beads You Find
Remember, you can use ANY pretty beads that you find at your local craft or bead store. There is no limit to your creativity with this project… this pattern is a simple one but feel free to branch out!
