The upbeat movie Yes Man , highlights Jim Carrey’s hectic life under a spell. It forces him to say “yes” to every opportunity presented. The movie is both hilarious and thought provoking. Although extreme, the idea behind it has me thinking about my own life. Specifically, how I can be more adventurous and spontaneous.
So, here are a few tips to add spice to your life. Plus add “yes” more to your vocabulary!
Rise and Shine!
It is tough to awaken each morning at dawn and be ready to face the day ( This is why coffee was invented). Nonetheless, it is vital to cease the day. My experience working at a donut shop starting my day at 5am, is the earlier you rise, the more opportunities you will face! I’ve found the day feels longer in the best possible way. We all hear people stating they cannot do something because “there are just not enough hours in the day.” Pushing that snooze button just one less time will give you the opportunity! The famous quote by Benjamin Franklin says it all “…there will be sleeping enough in the grave….”
Be on the prowl!
Consciously seek opportunities you are interested in! It is as simple as that. To become more of a ‘Yes Man,’ surround yourself with things that interest you. Place yourself in situations that you’re “in your element.” You’ll say “yes” to more opportunities that come your way. For example, become involved in clubs and groups you find enjoyable. Each presents more opportunities for you to say “yes” to. Go join that skydiving class , pottery class! Maybe buy that slackline you’ve been eyeing for months. Time is ticking. Your life is exactly how you make it. You never know who or what opportunity is right around the corner!
Stop hesitating…I guess
You are the star of your own show. Launch yourself, full force, at each positive opportunity that comes your way. When reflecting back at your life, you will be glad you took a chance versus not. If you are thinking what I am thinking, then you are well on your way to becoming a Yes Man! Sometimes, it simply requires a leap of faith! Literally, go cliff jumping , or figuratively, say “yes” to at opportunities you typically pass up.
