Since 2008, Barcelona-based Suara has built a strong reputation as a quality dance music label by releasing tracks from notable artists including Hot Since 82, Dosem, Edu Imbernon, Tube & Berger, Affkt and Jay Lumen, among others. Now, mastermind Coyu’s feline-friendly imprint presents its latest releases from UNER, one to watch in the new generation of Spanish electronic music producers.
Following up previous releases on respected labels like Diynamic, Visionquest and Cadenza, UNER, aka Manuel Garcia, returns on October 10 with the Stardis EP, his eighth release on Suara. As you’d expect, “Disclaimer” is one for an early set on an underground club’s big sound system, epic and trancey with a pensive undercurrent.
Dive into the premiere of “Disclaimer” below, and read on to find out about the inspiration behind the track, what it was like growing up west of Barcelona, and more.
What’s the inspiration behind the new track?
My inspiration is always coming from my own life, my own feelings. “Walking With the Stars” is a kind of ascension to different universes, and “Disclaimer” is the kind of moment when you are one with everything around you, just you on your own.
How did it end up on Coyu’s respected Suara label?
We have been friends for years, and we were talking about a return to Suara a long time ago. I was working on some projects and music, then as soon as I had these tracks ready with a techno sound, I thought Suara was the right label to release them. Super simple.
What’s the perfect time of night to play it, and why?
I love to play an early set, when you can play those special tracks (maybe like “Disclaimer”). Of course, playing peak-time is amazing, because usually the vibe is 100 percent hot (perfect for “Walking”), but what I love is to play both together… I mean, I love to play long sets—sometimes all night long. Just two hours is not enough to build something very special. So, the perfect time to play is WHENEVER you feel.
What’s the reaction been so far?
Very cool! I played both tracks during recent months, and the reactions are amazing. Also, the DJ Hell remix... wooooo, what a bomb!!!
Who is the DJ you most enjoy seeing live—your own personal “DJ’s DJ”—and why?
Everybody knows I love Laurent Garnier. I have seen him play live many times, and it’s always super inspirational. The way he plays so many different kinds of music is superb!
What was it like growing up in Lleida?
Super cool—I never pretend to be anywhere else. Almost all my friends and family are here or super close to here. It’s a quiet place, no stress, no traffic... The weather sometimes is a bit crazy, but at the same time, I can feel myself, like I’m always living in my childhood, and I’m feeling 100 percent happy most of the time.
We have one of the most important clubs in Spain… just 17 km from home! That was amazing, to have all the DJs super close to my own home.
What do you like listening to when you’re chilling out at home?
I love to listen to a lot of different kinds of music, depending on the moment and the time. At the moment, I have Lisa Gerrar, Ludovico Einaudi, Moderat and Olaf Arnalds, among others, in my iTunes.
Any upcoming gigs / US touring you’re excited about?
YES! We are always touring, and of course we are back to US very soon! I’m doing the Groove Cruise Cabo in October, then we are arranging something special for NYC on Halloween. Then Chicago, Tijuana, Miami, L.A., and then some gigs around South America, too. It’s gonna be a great tour!
What’s next for you?
Next I’ll focus all my effort on my new album... Right now I’m creating a lot of music, so it’s the perfect time for it.
