Boys Noize Enters the Surveillance Slipstream With ‘Snowden’ Soundtrack Video

German electro-noise specialist Boys Noize revealed back in June that he was working on the soundtrack for Snowden, the bio-flick directed by Oliver Stone that delves into the life and times of former CIA employee Edward Snowden . Offering a dramatized account of Snowden’s decision in 2013 to leak thousands of highly classified NSA documents, which transformed how we view government surveillance and privacy, the film has a rather visceral theme song in the form of Boys Noize’ “Mayday,” as well as a mesmerising video to match.

In addition to the score compositions from Boys Noize that are featured in the film, Snowden >also features a new edit of the exhilarating title track from his Mayday album that dropped on his Boysnoize Records label earlier this year. For the video he called upon the talents of regular visual collaborator LIL Internet , who fuses footage from the film with an actual CGI representation of the kind of surveillance networks the films discusses.

“All of the surveillance footage in this music video was captured from unprotected security cameras. In homes, shops, streets and offices, using a public website,” the video eerily informs the viewer. “So if the NSA isn’t watching you, someone probably is.”
