Earlier this month we were treated to a fantastic new mini-documentary from the Smirnoff Sound Collective that examined Canadian duo Zeds Dead and their decision to return to their home of Toronto to launch their new DeadBeats Records label. It looks like it’s gonna be part of a series that examines dance culture from a more thoughtful perspective, and the latest tackles the notion of “tribes” through the window of Claude VonStroke and his Dirtybird label.
VonStroke has purveying his brand of funk-fueled take of house and techno via his Dirtybird label for over a decade now, and Tribes examines the bigger picture of what’s involved in running a record label, putting on festivals and events, working with a team to get things done, as well as the importance of building a community around your brand.
