Designed and ready for shipping in under 90 days, the new Shift Hoody from Westcomb is set to be the lightest jacket on the market made from Polartec NeoShell. Uncompromising breathability with wind and rain protection, the Shift will make the ultimate backcountry shell or fast and light alpine jacket.
At 11 ounces, the Shift is a whole 3 ounces lighter than current Westcomb Switch alpine jacket. In order to shave off weight, Westcomb employed narrower 2-ply seam tape (3-ply is normal), while doubling up the stitching per inch to ensure strength and durability.
Made entirely from Polartec NeoShell , the Shift is minimalist in nature. The shell jacket features a large Napolean Dry Pocket on the chest for quick and easy access to snacks or other essentials, and will stay out of the way of your harness.
A cinch cord allows you to adjust the hem with one hand, with a three point adjustable fixed storm hood that fits over a helmet. Velcro cuff closures keep the snow, wind, or rain from slipping in through your wrists. A small internal pocket is perfect for storing your phone or MP3 player.
The Westcomb Shift Hoody retails for $400 and will start shipping the end of May (you can pre-order from Climb High now). Looks like only a men's version will be available for now.
