Tahoe Traditions

It’s hard to imagine that a little over a week ago I was sitting pretty on our boat… floating in the middle of Lake Tahoe surrounded by my ultimate loved ones.

Tahoe Traditions

My sister and I commented that every year we return, it feels as though we never left.  Familiarity, tradition,  and routine could all be factors… and that every year since my sisters and I were born (give or take 1-2 years) we have found ourselves surrounded and enchanted by the beauty Lake Tahoe encompasses.

I could write for days on how special this place is, the traditions we’ve upheld for 20+ years, the subtle changes and additions- (my AMAZING brothers for example), The fact that this is still our summer reality has me bubbling over with gratitude.  That we can take time out of busy schedules and lives to be with each other, relax in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and just BE- has me already thinking about Tahoe Summer 2013.

Reflections on Tahoe 2012 🙂

Tahoe Traditions Tahoe is… lunch at the Bridgetender… because a basket (or two) of waffle fries really starts the trip off right!

Tahoe Traditions … it is successfully (and sometimes unsuccessfully) getting up early to wakeboard! This part of the day is my favorite.  Being one of the few boats out there, glassy water, no wind, everything feels sound and calm. What better way to wake up than to jump in freezing water? Mix that with the adrenaline (and a pinch of fear) in trying a new trick and my body and brain are more than alert.  It’s such a comfort to know that I have an encouraging and supportive coaching group in the boat.  And that water can’t hurt THAT bad if and when I fall. Moreover, if the fall is a great one… I am in the running for the “best eat shit” contest… which by the way was rewarded HANDS DOWN to Kai this year. Way to go big buddy! (should we start making summer trophies? just a thought 😉

Tahoe Traditions

it’s looking forward to dinner EVERY NIGHT because there is something ridiculous on the menu… homemade pizza, fish tacos, jumbalaya, chicken picatta, (did I mention it is gaining at least 5 lbs as well?)

Tahoe Traditions it’s cleansing and mermaiding in the crystal clear ice water …..

Tahoe Traditions it’s catching stunning sunrises….

Tahoe Traditions and it’s taking it all in and knowing there is no where else you would rather be…

It’s also…

*loving my dad even though he INSISTS on playing Jimmy Buffett in the house, on the boat, in the car…. my blood pressure rises at the mere thought!

*Going through copious amounts of coffee in the am lounging on the deck

*Wet Woody Wednesdays and happy hour

*Day trips to Emerald bay & Hidden beach

*Competitive games (mostly Kai’s doing) of liverpool rummy & dominos

*Ice Cream/Smores/chocolate every night… because I’m on vacation Yo!

And MOST of all, cherishing every single moment I get to share with these extraordinary people I’ve been blessed with. Mom, Dad, Steph, Erin, Chris & Kai… My love for you is unconditional and forever expanding .

Till next summer! 🙂
