It's hard to imagine a more natural fit for an easy-going couple than this sweetly simple sunrise ceremony on Delray Beach. The groom grew up in Boca, and the couple visit the area often to visit his parents, surfing and paddleboarding with their little girl, Ellie. When it came time to pick a place to tie the knot, the charm and beauty of Delray Beach was an easy check mark, as was the choice of Lauren Louise Photography to capture the day.
Julia and Jerry met four years ago, while they were both living at a friend's big old house in Maryland. To get to Jerry's room in the back of the house, you had to walk through a closet, which the two dubbed "Narnia" - their own little secret world before they announced to their friends that they were dating. Says Julia, "We instantly bonded by playing catch outside and staying up late to watch thunderstorms on the porch. We became really good friends and confided in each other about everything. We had the same sense of humor and felt totally comfortable with each other. After we started dating I became pregnant with our first baby, Ellie. We got really serious and really came together then and it felt totally natural and comfortable. "
“We have a way of helping each other get through tough times and we have a way of maintaining a sense of humor through stressful times. We are constantly joking around and teasing each other. We make a great team.”
My something-old is actually my engagement ring which is Jerry's grandmother's engagement ring from the Great Depression. I had a wedding ring custom made to match the engagement ring as my something-new.
Jenny Does Weddings put together the flowers for the day, including Julia's bouquet, Jerry's boutonniere, Ellie's sweet flower crown, and the mothers' bouquets. All featured Julia's favorite color, yellow, and suited her relaxed style: "She made this amazing assortment of gorgeous flowers that wasn't pretentious at all."
In keeping with their laid-back personalities, the two prioritized a quiet, simple and intimate day with just 25 of their closest family and friends. They laid out hurricane candles and beach blankets (blue, for Jerry's favorite color) on the beach, and Julia's brother officiated their short, sweet, laughter-filled ceremony. From Julia: "The wedding was so great. It was just as calm and casual and funny as we hoped it would be. My brother had his speech taped inside of Cal Ripkin's autobiography since we are huge Baltimore Orioles fans. We had the ceremony at sunrise because we are always up at sunrise because our daughter wakes up so early - it was amazing to share the wedding with her."
Afterwards, they celebrated at Benny's on the Beach with breakfast and mimosas; they kept the vacation feel going through the weekend, spending as much time as possible on the beach and area restaurants with their loved ones. Back in Maryland now, they are settling into married life... and expecting a new little addition to the family in April! Congratulations, guys!
