Bill Bryson’s ‘Walk In The Woods’ To Hit Big Screen

The beloved (by some) book ‘A Walk In The Woods’ by Bill Bryson has been adapted into a movie starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte.

It tells the story of Bryson – played by Redford – who sets out to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail with little experience.

The comical story tells the trials and tribulations of Bryson and his trail-mate as they attempt to go from green rookies to seasoned backpackers.

The movie is set to be released this coming fall and has a star-studded cast including a cameo by Nick Offerman (of sitcom star Ron Swanson fame) who plays a sardonic REI employee.

The adaptation follows right on the heels of Wild, a film starring Reece Witherspoon, about a women who hikes the Pacific Crest Trail.

Witherspoon has produced what has been dubbed the “Wild Effect” on the PCT, drawing record numbers of hikers to attempt the 2,650-mile trail.

We’ll see if A Walk In The Woods has the same affect on the Appalachian Trail.
