Are you tired of looking at an endless stream of sunset photos Instagram? Exhausted trying to sift through all the craft and baking pictures on Pinterest to find a good travel photo?
If so, Trover may be for you. We love looking at great photos, but lately we’ve found ourselves uninspired. In the past, our travels were always influenced by photography. I remember seeing a poster on a bus in Kuala Lumpur way back in 2003 of the Golden Rock in Myanmar . We had never seen or heard of it before, but that shot was so captivating, it made us change our plans and book a flight to Yangon. Myanmar wasn’t even on our South East Asia itinerary, but because of that photo, we spent a month exploring the country and it turned out to be one of our most memorable travel experiences of our lives.
Why We Like Trover
Lately when we look at photos in our social media stream, we find that, while they are beautiful images, they are lacking in impact. Sure that photo of a steaming blue coffee cup sitting in front of an orange window pane in Italy is pretty, but it doesn’t get me excited about going there. (Note: I have never seen this exact image. If you have a blue cup of coffee in front of an orange window pane in Italy on your Instagram feed, it is purely coincidental)
I want to see real images of real people doing really cool things. When I look at the image, I want to see where it was taken, read a bit of what it’s about and maybe get a tip or read a review of it. I also want to click a map and find out exactly where it is located.
Guess what? Trover can do all that. I’m no longer browsing aimlessly through photos, I’m browsing with purpose.
When I click on a photo I can read about that photo. If I want to see more on Trover of what there is to see and do in the area, I can click on, “Explore more in the area.” And if I’ve seen enough, I can check out the suggestions of What’s hot or something related to the photo. I find myself getting lost in the thread of great photographs before me.
Creating our Own Trover Profile
We started using Trover a couple of weeks ago and we have become quite addicted to it.
We’ve made to sure to start this social media site off on the right foot. Learning from mistakes we’ve made in the past with other sites, We’re actually thinking about the photos we want to post. We’re inputting the information we want to share, and creating the locations we want to pin to our map. Speaking of maps, I am seriously in love with their travel map. When we first started uploading photos, we wanted to populate our map as much as possible, so we started putting up photos from our travels that filled out the maps. It’s so easy to do. When you upload a photo, you type in where it was taken and Trover finds the location for you and automatically pins that photo to your photo map.
It doesn’t matter if we put our photos in order because your photos are automatically sorted by country. So when you click on a country, all the photos from that country will show up on the screen. We’ve had so much fun populating our map to have photos on each continent and now we’re looking forward to filling each country with beautiful shots.
