Laura Reichert and Charles Matthews met casually enough. It was orientation day for graduate students at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and Laura couldn’t find her phone anywhere. She asked the first person she saw—coincidentally, Charles—to borrow his (only to dial her number and discover she had accidentally thrown her phone away in a nearby trashcan!). An unlucky circumstance all of a sudden turned fateful, as the pair struck up a friendship—Charles intrigued by Laura’s intelligence, sense of humor and beauty, and Laura charmed by Charles’ good looks, shy nature and love of dogs. A few months later, Charles finally got up the nerve to ask Laura on a date. And as they say, the rest is history.
