DIY Wedding | Chris + Karen

“I was looking forward to Karen and Chris’ wedding all summer. Karen kept me up-to-date on her DIY design plans by email and on Pinterest. When I met with them just a week before the ceremony they had accumulated a barn-full of decorations, and their amazing team of family and friends helped pull it all together. They put as much calm excitement and care into each little detail as they put into their relationship. I was thrilled to see how perfectly their day turned out. They really deserved it.” – Photography by Sophia Lemon

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

My mom singing at both reception and ceremony… and just the all the people in general. The turnout and the amazing company makes all the planning all worthwhile. Being truly surrounded by all your loved ones is incredible.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

Basically everything! We had no wedding planner and barely any rentals. We collected shutters and painted them for the place cards. Collected wheat grass and other wildflowers (literally from ditches and fields). We made the arbor from shutter closet doors. Our centerpieces were antique water pitchers as well as old tea cups with succulents. Our head table was our own fabric my aunts and I did up. A willow branch chandelier was from our willow trees in backyard. We handmade all the signs… and the nacho and taco bar!

Something old, new, borrowed and blue?

I wasn’t going to on purpose, but last minute it turned out. Something old – my vintage headband. Borrowed – my mother in laws cake cutter. Blue – my nieces little sock booties. She was also wearing a mini bird cage. Not to mention my undies were blue! And pale blue being one of my main colors throughout decor!

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

Enjoy it ALL. Don’t take things too serious and try not to see it all as a checklist. Go outside the norm and make it your own!! Incorporate as many loved ones as you want and have a riot. Just indulge and be silly with every single planning step. – Karen, the bride
