Snow is melting and the trails are drying up–time to hit some the singletrack. To keep you outfitted for all things spring trail related, Patagonia is now dabbling in mountain bike gear, making it multi-functional for use while trail running, hiking, or participating in other activities.
The base of the line is the men’s and women’s Dirt Craft Bike Shorts ($149) . The outer short is made from a Bluesign approved 96% nylon, 4% spandex fabric that is DWR treated to shed moisture and dirt. The waist is fully adjustable–elastic in the back attaches to low profile webbing on the inside of the waist which buttons to fine tune the fit. Drop in hand pockets fit your phone and the secure zippered pocket on the back (side of the left leg for the guys) holds your keys and cash. The women’s mountain biking short inseam is 9″ and 11.5″ for the men.
The detachable liner connects to the outer short with webbing and snaps. The liner is made from a stretch polyester and spandex fabric blend with large breathable mesh panels. A seamless, multi-level open cell foam pad with an ergonomic shape to match the pressure points for men or women accordingly keeps your backside happy even after hours on the trail.
Arguably, the rest of shirts, jackets, and even hydration packs aren’t exactly mountain bike specific (i.e., no jersey pockets) and that is probably a good thing for your bank account. The fast-drying Short-Sleeved Fore Runner Zip-Neck ($45) is made from a Bluesign approved, odor control, 100% recycled polyester fabric that is ultralight and highly breathable. A deep front zipper (with chin guard for comfort) can be fully opened to shed excess heat when earning your berms. Flatlock seams (offset at shoulder) provide no-chafe, next-to-skin comfort, and a locker loop lets you dry it out afterward. The short sleeve bike shirt offers 15-UPF sun protection to up the tan line factor.
The Dirt Craft Jacket ($129) is made from a Bluesign approved 95% nylon/5% spandex ripstop soft shell fabric that provides wind resistance and sheds light moisture with its DWR finish. Zippers close the two hand pockets and the concealed chest pocket, while Velcro tabs adjust the cuffs. A single pull system lets you cinch in the hem and a drop tail gives you added coverage when cycling.
The entire Patagonia mountain bike collection is available now on the company website.
