Today Cwtchers we have a stunning midweek mini from Cerys and Chris who got married in Pencoed House , Cardiff. They let us have a glimpse at their favourite bits from their big day.
We got engaged on Christmas Day 2013. Being a teacher, I am creative so planning and making things started from the moment Chris popped the question. Chris is very particular, a bit of a perfectionist, a big food lover and cook so we wanted to make sure our big day reflected us completely.
We did a bit of research early in the new year of 2014 but after visiting our first venue ‘ Pencoed House Estate ‘ we knew it was the perfect venue for us and did not look any further.
With the venue sorted, I was keen to try on dresses. After numerous days of dress shopping and back and forth to Laura May (I just knew my dress was in their shop somewhere) and they picked out a dress which was ‘The One’ in everyway. The staff were amazing!
The theme for our wedding was vintage. My mum and I spent most of our weekends in charity shops and boot sales purchasing every bit of china we could find for the table decorations. Each female guest had a teacup candle and the table centres were crafted from china and wine glasses. Every item was handmade. Chris runs his own CrossFit business (Gym) so he had the say on the male favours which were homemade paleo (healthy) fudge.
We named each table to reflect the courage and strength that our families had shown during some very difficult times leading up to the wedding with illnesses and sadly some loses and for what we had achieved in our lives. ‘Faith, hope, love, live, laugh, dream, joy, peace, wish.’
Chris made the table plan from palettes and frames and ensured that our choice of food for the wedding was the very best. Spiro’ s catered for our big day and everything from the canapé’s to the hog roast in the evening was first class.
I thought that sorting my dress was a hard task but Chris knew exactly what he wanted to wear; we just couldn’t find it, so that meant a few trips to London to Suit Supply who made his suit. He knew he wanted to be different and didn’t want to wear the typical wedding attire. We agreed that the groom should have something as special as a bride.
Our florist Amanda French was the perfect floral stylist for the wedding and she understood what we were trying to achieve. My bouquet was beautiful and delicate, the table flowers complimented this and the button holes reflected Chris’ love for food and cooking with the rosemary touches.
The wedding was personal in everyway. My brother performed an acoustic piece on his guitar during the ceremony and very close family friends sang during the signing of the register. They also performed our first dance and my brother wrote a song which he played as a surprise during the evening entertainment. All very emotional.
The speeches were the highlight of the day for us. The bridesmaid’s even got involved and wrote their own version of the friends classic ‘I’ll be there for you’ and performed it on the balcony.
We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day and we were both so glad that we had done as much as we could ourselves. The positive feedback from guests about what a wonderful day they had was the icing on the cake for what a truly incredible day we had. One we will never forget!
