DIY Wedding | Minh + Tiffany

“It’s such a cliché to hear how much in love a Bride and Groom were on their wedding day, but Tiffany and Minh really were! I can’t even put into words the amount of love you could see between them on their special day and throughout the planning process. It was a true privilege to be able to help them. This couple is honestly one of the sweetest and most caring couples I have ever worked with. They chose to go with simple and playful décor for their wedding day, and it turned out perfectly. We selected a color palette based on shades of turquoise, aqua and teal with an accent of pink and touches of chevron print. This clean cut design was perfect for a Southern California summer wedding. Tiffany’s girls wore dresses in shades of turquoise and teal that rounded out the entire color scheme. There were small DIY touches that the bride put into her special day that took the decor to a whole new level. To Tiffany and Minh ~ I wish you the happiest and longest of all marriages!” Love, Ngoc Nguyen Lay of Skybox Event Productions

“The day from beginning to end was so incredible, but one that is particularly special would be our first dance. It was right after we said our vows and was the first moment of starting our life together as husband and wife. Being in the center of the room, seeing everything come together for the first time after months and months of planning, while also being surrounded by our family and friends who have loved and supported us throughout our lives will be something we will always remember…

..Yes! DIY-ing certain elements allowed us to create a custom and cohesive look throughout our wedding.  Our first project was customizing our wedding website which established the chevron design we incorporated throughout our other projects. We designed and printed our own save the dates, invitations, programs, timeline handouts, guest books, seating charts, thank you cards, and even made our own card box, cake stand and directional signs! We also designed, personalized, and packaged each guest’s take home favor which served double duty as their place card.

DIY-ing your wedding can be really fun, especially if you have awesome family and friends willing to help out on projects!

..Some of my jewelry was gifted to me by my parents which was custom, set using the diamonds from my mother’s engagement ring and served as my something old. My something new was my dress, my something borrowed were my earrings and bracelet which were lent to me by one of my bridesmaids, Lucy. My something blue was my garter belt, and of course, all my beautiful bridesmaids in various shades of blue!

..First off, have fun and enjoy the planning process! It’s easy to place a lot of pressure and expectations on your own wedding when there is so much beautiful inspiration everywhere. Think of the type of look and feel you want for your wedding and everything will eventually come together.

Second, find and hire vendors that you connect with who understand the type of wedding you envision.

Lastly, hire a really great wedding planner! Our wedding planner, Ngoc, helped guide us through the whole planning process, while allowing us to create a wedding that was “us”.  Ngoc and the Skybox Production team did an amazing job bringing our vision together and allowed us to really enjoy the day alongside our guests.

Our wedding day turned out better than we could have ever imagined thanks to our family, friends, and vendors. Regardless if some things don’t turn out the way you planned, you’ll be marrying the love of your life, so it will be an unforgettably amazing day!” – Tiffany, the bride
